IdeologyMap

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about IdeologyMap — how it works, what it measures, and why it's different.

What is IdeologyMap?

IdeologyMap is a free, fully anonymous multi-dimensional political compass test. Instead of placing you on a single left–right line, it scores your political views on five separately scored axes and matches you to the closest political ideology, to public and historical figures, and to countries with a similar political climate.

What are the five axes IdeologyMap uses?

Economy (Collective vs Market), Society & Order (Open vs Traditional), Rights & State Power (Liberty-First vs Safety-First), Nation & World (Cooperative vs Sovereigntist), and Pace of Change (Radical vs Incremental — how fast and by what method society should change, from deep fast systemic transformation to gradual cautious step-by-step reform).

Is the test free? Do I need to register?

The test is completely free and requires no registration, email, or account of any kind. There are no hidden paid tiers.

Is my data anonymous? Do you store my answers?

Your answers are calculated in your browser and are not sent to our server. Progress is saved in this tab so you can continue after refreshing. A shared results or comparison link contains your scores; anyone with the link can view them.

How long does the test take?

There are three lengths: Quick (30 questions, about 5 minutes), Standard (50 questions, about 7–9 minutes), and Deep (80 questions, about 12–15 minutes). You can return to earlier answers. If unsure, choose “Neutral / Unsure”. Progress is saved in this tab.

How is IdeologyMap different from the classic Political Compass?

The classic Political Compass uses economic left–right and libertarian–authoritarian axes. IdeologyMap scores five dimensions separately: Economy, Society & Order, Rights & State Power, Nation & World, and Pace of Change. The models define their axes differently, so their scores are not directly interchangeable.

What ideologies can I match with?

The current database contains 17 profiles, including Progressive Left, Democratic Socialist, Social Democrat, Libertarian, Technocrat, Centrist. Ideology matches use all five axes. These are simplified reference profiles, not definitive labels or a scientifically validated diagnosis.

How does the country matching work?

After you complete the test, your five-axis score is compared against the estimated political profile of countries worldwide. The countries shown are those whose overall political climate most closely matches your personal score — not your nationality or residence.

How does the figures matching work?

Figure matches compare your Economy and Society & Order scores with estimated positions of public and historical figures on those two axes. They do not use the other three axes. These approximate comparisons are illustrative, not a complete assessment of a person’s views.

In what languages is IdeologyMap available?

IdeologyMap is available in 11 languages: Russian, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Arabic, and Hebrew. Each language is served under its own URL prefix (/ru, /en, /es, etc.).

Can I share my results?

Yes. After completing the test you can copy a link to your results, share a formatted image card on social media (optimised for feed posts and Stories), or compare your profile with a friend by sending them a special comparison link.

Is IdeologyMap affiliated with any political party or organization?

No. IdeologyMap is an independent project with no affiliation to any political party, movement, government, or organization. The test is designed to be non-partisan and does not endorse any ideology or political position.
